Last March, I covered Dustin's 4th birthday party. Dustin is the very charming kid of Litzie Bernardo-Anchinges, one of Team Diaz's photographers.
It has always been a Flor Family tradition to have their family portrait taken whenever Tito Leo, their patriarch, comes home from the states. As promised to my lovely friend Mitch, the youngest of the clan, I would cover the shoot this year. It has been a great milestone for the family because an additional member is on the way -- another grandson is coming. Everyone’s excited to have their solos, have their own fun poses and even brought their own props! And some who were slightly not in the mood, but you wouldn’t even notice :-) Thank you Mitch for the invitation. Can't wait for the next one...
December of last year, our company had our annual Christmas party. The organizers decided to have a photo gallery contest open to all employees and photos must be taken during the event. I was lucky enough to win the Best Photo Gallery award and received prize money enough to pay for my camera repair service :-)
Last year, I had a casual chat with my friend Sharon about our current professions. Out of this conversation, we made a pact to pursue what we really want in our own careers. For myself, I really wanted to seriously take photography but don’t know where and how to start. That’s when she asked me to take their family portrait, making her my first client, my very first advocate so to speak. The photos were used for her youngest daughter Abi on her first birthday party. I wasn’t really expecting anything aside from having a portfolio, but was surprised to get paid, not to mention a very delicious suman from Bulacan to go with it.
Thank you Don and Sharon for the opportunity! And by the way Sharon, it's your turn :-P I knew early on that I will cover Jeff and Trina’s wedding simply because Trina is my friend since College and being her friend, I was way cheaper than the rest of the photographers out there. I was not insulted (ok maybe a bit) but kidding aside, I was actually honored that both of them believed in me and gave me full control on how I want the shoot would be. This was my first wedding gig and more than anything, I was excited. Until it hit me -- I need a team. I cannot cover the event all by myself.
So I formed a team of photographers (composed of friends) and acted as their team leader. Everyone’s excited to be part of this event and the more the date gets nearer, the more “they” panic. Well it shouldn’t give too much pressure on me, si Trins lang yun. On the said event, everyone has their own assignments. Mine was mostly focused on the bride and groom of course (like I have a choice). Since this was my first wedding gig, I never thought it would be so challenging. Couple of lessons I learned was never ever be the driver if you are the official photographer and always bring a bottled water in your bag. It’s just too exhausting. But despite all the vigorous 13-hour activity involved with covering a wedding, nothing can beat captured moments and seeing your friends getting hitched. Congrats Jeff and Trina, may you have more happy years ahead! |
